Dilemmas, Decisions and Democracy in Yarra

6 to 7:30pm, Wednesday 29th November

Richmond Library Theatrette

Democracy is under pressure globally.

Closer to home in Victoria, governments are being challenged like never before. Satisfaction in council decision making has declined since COVID.

Some councils have resorted to online meetings to protect their councillors and staff from angry citizens. This is new territory.

How are we faring in Yarra? Is local democracy in good shape? How can it be strengthened?

Cr Amanda Stone undertook a MAV Local Government Fellowship in 2022 to study deliberative democracy and how it can improve decision making by involving citizens in the decision making.

She will present a summary of her findings and 2 local residents will respond.

A Q and A and discussion will follow.
